The Alpine School District Board met on Tuesday, February 26th and made a final decision to adjust our school boundaries which will send Valley View 6th grade students to Oak Canyon Jr. High effective Fall 2013. The vote was unanimous. Here are answers to questions you may have regarding the new boundary adjustment:
1) Will parents still have the option to choose PG or Oak Canyon if they live within the Valley View boundaries and if so for how long? PGJHS will have open enrollment for any Valley View student. Parents will have the option to choose Oak Canyon or PGJR. PGJR will be as accommodating as possible during this transition.
2) How long will buses run to both schools? Buses will run for two years to both schools. After that, buses will only run to Oak Canyon Junior.
3) Can current PGJR students of Valley View families also transfer over and attend Oak Canyon? Families from Valley View that will have 7th graders attending Oak Canyon, would have the option to transfer siblings out of PGJR to Oak Canyon. That should only effect 17 families if they choose to send all of their children to Oak Canyon. Oak Canyon will not accept current PGJR 7th or 8th grade students for next year enrollment who do not have a sibling entering Oak Canyon.
4) Will our students still attend Pleasant Grove High School? The boundary change will not affect PGHS boundaries and there is no intention of shifting Valley View out of the high school boundaries.
5) Will Valley View students not in our elementary school boundaries be able to attend Oak Canyon? "Out-of-Area" students attending Valley View would not be able to enroll at Oak Canyon without submitting an "Out-of-Area" application. Their acceptance to Oak Canyon is not automatic nor guaranteed.
6) What is the distance between our boundaries and both schools? Oak Canyon is 2.4 miles, PGJR is 2.1 miles.
7) Can Charter School students in the Valley View boundaries attend Oak Canyon? Charter school students who live WITHIN VV boundaries will be able to attend OCJHS without having to submit an Out of District Application.
